Rongai Route

Rongai Route Overview

The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. Known for its remote and less-traveled path, this route offers a quieter, drier, and more wilderness-oriented experience, making it a great choice for those seeking solitude and a unique perspective of the mountain.
With gentler slopes and a gradual ascent, the Rongai Route is considered one of the easier routes in terms of terrain, though still challenging due to the altitude. It is typically completed in 6 or 7 days, and while slightly less scenic than the western routes, it makes up for it with clear skies, unspoiled landscapes, and a different descent route (via the Marangu Route), which adds variety.
